Stella Artois

You can blame Rick for this time-eater: the vastly interactive site of Stella Artois. Watch the well-executed videos and check out the various ways to interact-- might I suggest taking The Challenge?

Monday montage

The coolest thing I've seen today: advertising a gambling site by rolling half-ton dice down a mountain (and taking bets on the results).

The coolest thing I saw a month ago and forgot to post about here: a math book written like a magazine to revive girls' interest in math. (Thanks Jenny & Kris!)

The coolest way to promote a band*: an addictive Flash game that aligns with your music and your styyyyle. (Thanks Charlie!)

*This may not be the coolest way to promote a band, but I painted myself into a corner here with the whole "coolest" thing.

Wyoming Bookstuffs

Again from mon amie E, I've received a fantastic link that has to do with libraries AND advertising. Double score! Check out these amazing ads for the libraries in Wyoming (the state, not the 'burb of Cincinnati). I'm really impressed by this campaign!

Playing Catch-Up

Some quick links to distract you from how long it's been since I last posted...

Lisa found a study about the color of candy, and how that can affect kids' behavior. Not sure I'm completely buying it, but if the internet says it's true...

Charlie, on the other hand, thinks that "junk sleep" might be the problem. Apparently, lack of sleep can be linked to obesity? Maybe we should start counting scapegoats instead of sheep. (Burned!)

Finally, for entertainment purposes only, a stop-motion video that my friends made:

Probably a smart idea...

In light of the waves of Mattel recalls, Disney is taking matters into its own hands.
The media and entertainment conglomerate said it will hire companies to randomly buy Disney-branded toys off store shelves and test for lead paint and other safety issues such as small parts that could come lose, Disney consumer products spokesman Gary Foster said.
Good call, Disney. Thanks for the link, Vicki!

More in the World of Books

This post is brought to you by my friends E and J, who tag-teamed to send me information about bookstuffs.

First off, J sent me a link to Google's new "library" feature. Which sucks because I'm paying for LibraryThing, and I bet Google will do it even better. Google's like that.

Then E found this article from the New York Times about electronic books. I've always been a skeptic of e-books because as much as I love reading, after eight hours of a computer screen I've had enough. I already avoid getting my news online for just this reason. Still, that's no reason to pretend that big things can't come from this slowly-growing industry.

Read the article (ow! my eyes!)-- if the book readers were in your price range, could you see yourself using one?

MTV Wants Your Kids to Use Condoms

Alright, this site is much more than a prophylactic ad, but I wanted you to pay attention to me.

MTV's advergame deals with issues sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll from a very trendy, design-hip perspective. I won't go into it much because Adverblog already has... but I do recommend spending the ten minutes or so it'll take you to customize your character and play the game. Very cool.
