ToppsTown: Bazooka Blow

While I'm not trying to turn this into a ToppsTown blog, the site is really fun to blog about. There are so many behind-the-scenes stories that I want to tell you about, and as close as I am to the project there's still so much that's a surprise to me. I guess that speaks to how much combined effort goes into a virtual world.

Today I logged on and noticed that Bazooka Blow is the featured game. Huzzah! While I enjoy all of our games, this simple twitch game makes my day. (Besides entering ToppsTown codes, it's also probably the easiest to rack of a few quick points.) In case you haven't played it, I'm posting a few screen grabs.

Charlie did an awesome job with this guy's expressions. (Oops! I originally said it was Evan, who also does amazing work, but this game was in Charlie's court. Oooops!) That's what makes such a basic game really stand out: the style behind it.

We also developed the music for the game-- you can thank Mark for the goofy, classic arcade-type music that loops throughout the game.

And I think there's a great finishing touch on the bee and the claw, both which fly in randomly to pop your Bazooka bubble. TIP: If you haven't noticed yet, they don't automatically pop the bubble. Sometimes if you wait just for one super-tense second, they might... might... fly back out of frame, leaving your bubble intact. As far as I can tell, the claw is more likely to vamoose than the bee (whom I repeatedly curse to high heaven).

Question to anyone still reading: are you interesting in hearing back-stories on other Topps Town games?

Yes, I for one would be interested in the backstory behind all the stuff on ToppsTown. As an adult who is going into teaching, I want to learn more about how sites geared towards children are created.

Also, I've been using ToppsTown every day since it started. I've even racked up 4 trophies already! AND I've managed to get a team set of virtual cards for my favorite team (the Angels) using JUST ONE ToppsTown code!

Compared to UpperDeck Kids, TT is a step above, especially in the games area.

I wish though, that the points could be used for something more than just virtual prizes.

Wildwill: Thank you so much for the comment! I'll do another game post soon (maybe tonight, time permitting).

As far as your last statement, I'd just like to say that SO WOULD WE! And hopefully in the future, as we roll out new features and capabilities, that will be on the agenda. Naturally I can't promise anything but it's on our wishlist as well.

Any game in particular you'd like to see on this blog?

My son (age 5) and I went to a card show this weekend and learned about toppstown - HE LOVES IT (I too am enjoying it).

He is obsessed with gaining trophies and completing the binder set.

Suggestions:
1) Make it a bit easier to find trades - perusing the trade floor is tedious. Perhaps a feature like 'find player you want' would help or a posting where you can list players you need or are willing to trade that people can respond to (like ebay or craigs list).

2) Another avenue for getting virtual cards - maybe using topps points to 'purchase' a virtual pack from the proshop. It could even be limited to one pack a day or something small to keep it fair (and no avatar or clubhouse items - just cards).

So far, so good - looking forward to more enhancements!
